The Importance of Tech in Universities
Technology is shaping learning in higher education. The COVID-19 pandemic forced a shift to remote learning, leading to the adoption of technologies that enabled more interactivity and hybrid models of online and in-person activities. These tools have changed learning, teaching, and assessment in ways that may persist after the pandemic. At Sara Foundation, we recognize these trends and are working to ensure that African students are not left behind. We are integrating technology into our programs and initiatives, preparing our students for a future where tech is ubiquitous.

Preparing Students for the Jobs of the Future
Education needs to prepare students for the future of work. One of the most powerful things higher ed can do to support today’s students is move away from the major. Removing or reducing major requirements, making it easier for students to change their course of study, integrating more modern subjects into the curriculum, and creating opportunities to test out real jobs are just a few ways schools could help students try on lots of different hats. In a future where very few people will have just one career in their lifetime, that flexibility alone becomes a valuable asset. Sara Foundation is committed to equipping our students with the skills and knowledge they need for the jobs of the future. We are fostering a culture of continuous learning and practical application, positioning Africans for a future in technology.
The Rise of Online Learning Platforms
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in schools shut all across the world. Globally, over 1.2 billion children are out of the classroom. As a result, education has changed dramatically, with the distinctive rise of e-learning, whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms. Research suggests that online learning has been shown to increase retention of information, and take less time, meaning the changes coronavirus have caused might be here to stay. Sara Foundation is leveraging this trend by developing and promoting online learning platforms that are accessible and relevant to our students, ensuring that they can continue their education regardless of circumstances.
The Impact of Tech Education on Developing Economies
Education has long been considered a means to move out of poverty. Edtech—teaching and learning that makes use of technology—has in recent years become a multi-billion dollar sector for both developed and developing countries. And an emerging category in the sector are nonprofit organizations, backed by investors eager to spread tech literacy to improve livelihoods throughout the globe. Education is an investment. The importance of knowledge and learning has been recognized since the beginning of time. Another year of schooling raises earnings by 10 percent a year. This is typically more than any other investment an individual could make. We believe in the transformative power of education and are committed to making a difference in the lives of our students and their communities.
